Chicago Cubs pitcher Yu Darvish, who has been out since late May with an arm issue, will make a rehab start for the South Bend Cubs this weekend, the team announced Friday.
Darvish, who made a rehab start with the team earlier this season before being shut back down, will pitch on Sunday when the Cubs battle the Great Lakes Loons.
It’s been a rough first year with the Cubs for Darvish, who has a 1-3 record and a 4.95 ERA in eight starts this season. He is hoping to make at least one or two more rehab starts after Sunday’s appearance, and is targeting a late-August return to the team’s rotation.
The Cubs recently moved Darvish to the 60-day disabled list, meaning that they will have to make a roster move to get him back on the active 40-man roster. He is eligible to come off of that D.L. at any time since it’s already been 60 days since he last pitched in the big leagues.
