Cubs Officially Sign 1st Round Pick Nico Hoerner to Contract

Hoerner had two home runs and a .345 average for Stanford last season

Chicago Cubs first round pick Nico Hoerner officially signed his first professional contract on Sunday.

Hoerner, the Stanford product who hit .345 with two home runs and 40 RBI in his final season with the Cardinal, posted a photo on Instagram as he signed the contract at the Cubs’ complex in Arizona:

“While this officially ends my college career, these were three of the most enjoyable and influential years I’ll ever experience,” he said. “It hurts to leave with unfinished business, but Stanford Baseball is in a great place moving forward.”

The Cubs have signed a good chunk of their top draft picks, including their two second round picks and their third round pick.

It has not yet been announced when Hoerner will officially begin his pro career, but he will likely join the Cubs’ rookie league team in Mesa when he’s ready.
