Joe Espada Having 2nd Interview With Cubs, According to Reports

Espada and the Astros just clinched a berth in the World Series on Saturday

The Chicago Cubs are still searching for their new manager, but one of the candidates they’ve already interviewed is being brought in for another chat, according to multiple reports.

According to MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand and MLB Network’s Jon Heyman, the Cubs are talking to Houston Astros bench coach Joe Espada on Sunday, their second interview with a candidate that is quickly becoming one of the most sought-after in the game.

Espada, whose Astros clinched a berth in the World Series on Saturday night, interviewed with the Cubs earlier in the process, but the team was reportedly very impressed with what they heard from him and wanted to talk to him again.

According to a report from Chicago Sun-Times beat writer Gordon Wittenmyer, Espada is one of two candidates still in the running for the Cubs’ job, along with former catcher David Ross. Ross was one of the first candidates the Cubs talked to, and has largely been considered the favorite to land the position, but Espada’s emergence could signal a change in the tides for the managerial search.
