A 10-year-old girl was seriously injured Friday after falling over a railing at the downtown Sears store, authorities said.
First responders said they were called to the store, at 2 North State Street, at around 3:30 p.m. Once there, they said they found the girl on the floor. She was breathing but not able to communicate, police said in a report.
The girl was at the store with her grandmother, police said. The grandmother said she heard the girl call out to her, and when she turned around to respond saw her granddaughter go over the railing near an escalator.
She was taken to Lurie Children's Hospital and listed in serious-to-critical condition.
