Cardinal Francis George Surprised to Share Name With New Pope

Vatican: Pope Francis is honoring St. Francis of Assisi

Chicago's Cardinal Francis George said Wednesday the election of Pope Francis may have been a surprising choice but one he hopes will ultimately lead to the Vatican putting it's house in order.

"He will have to get people who will do what he wants done and will help him make the changes necessary," George said in a sit-down interview at the Vatican following the public introduction of Argentine Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio as pope.

About the name Bergoglio chose -- which The Vatican says was selected in honor of St. Francis of Assisi -- it wasn't lost on Chicago's cardinal.

"In Chicago now they'll have to say, 'For Francis our Pope and Francis our Bishop,' at the Mass every time.

Francis is the first-ever Jesuit and Latin American pope to lead the world's 1.2 billion Catholics.

George said he would remain in Rome though the pope's Installation Mass, scheduled for next Tuesday, St. Joseph's Day.
