Matt Nagy: No Competition for Cody Parkey After 4 Missed Kicks vs. Lions

Parkey missed two field goals and two extra points in the game

Chicago Bears kicker Cody Parkey may have missed a pair of field goals and two extra points on Sunday against the Detroit Lions, but don’t expect there to be competition for his job this week.

Asked after the game about the status of his kicker, Bears head coach Matt Nagy says there will be no competition for the job, even after Parkey managed to hit the uprights on four of the six kicks he attempted in the game.

Parkey has now missed five field goals this season, a career high. The two extra points that he missed in the game were the first he’s missed all season long.

Bears G.M. Ryan Pace signed Parkey to a four-year contract earlier this year, with $9 million in guaranteed money. If the team were to cut him, they would have around over $5 million in dead cap money for the 2019 season.
