The rain, rain won't be going away just yet, but when it does, it could make way for the coldest temperatures of the season so far.
A wet start to Monday morning made for difficult commuting conditions as cooler temperatures moved into the area following an unseasonably warm weekend.
The rain is expected to taper to scattered showers by the late-morning, early-afternoon hours as cloudy, breezy and cool conditions linger.
Temperature highs will sit in the mid- to upper-50s, a drastic change from Saturday's upper-70s.
The rain is forecast to continue Tuesday morning and afternoon, with two-day totals possibly reaching above 2, or perhaps 3 inches, particularly in northwest Indiana. Those totals will taper to an inch west towards the Fox Valley.
Temperature highs drop into the mid- to upper-40s Tuesday, but lows could reach into the 30s overnight, marking the coldest temperatures so far this fall.
The potential for the first frost or freeze could come Friday night or Saturday night as temps drop into the low- to mid-30s.
