Cook County Residents Among Unhealthiest in State: Study

Cook County residents are among the unhealthiest in the state, a report out Wednesday indicates.

The study, put together by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin, looked at 25 factors including obesity, smoking, education and access to healthy foods and doctors.

Of Illinois' 102 counties, Cook ranked 78th. According to the data, a few factors that make Cook County unhealthy include poverty, a high violent crime rate and high amounts of fast food restaurants.

The healthiest county in the metro area was DuPage, which ranked sixth. Kendall County was seventh, followed by Kane in the 12th spot, McHenry in the 17th and Will at number 25.

Douglas County took the top spot and Alexander County came in dead last.
