Roughly 500 flights in and out of Chicago's two airports were cancelled on Thursday as a winter storm hovered over the area.

At 8 p.m., airlines at O'Hare reported delays ranging from 30 minutes to over 90 minutes for all flights in and out of the airport. Approximately 400 flights were canceled Thursday due to weather.

At Midway, airlines reported delays averaging 90 minutes, with more than 100 cancellations throughout the day.

Travelers are advised to check with their airlines before they leave for the airport.

"We're seeing fewer people in the airports because the airlines preemptively cancelled flights," said Karen Pride, spokewoman for the Department of Aviation.
