Witness Helps Cops Nab Suspected Bank Robbers

Chase Bank at Irving Park Road and Milwaukee Avenue was robbed at about 1:30 p.m. Friday

Authorities say an alert witness provided the information they needed to arrest five people after a Chase Bank location on the city's north side was robbed Friday afternoon.

Two men walked into the bank, at 4854 West Irving Park Rd., at about 1:30 p.m. and ended up getting away with cash, said FBI Special Agent Ross Rice. The robbers got away in an awaiting car with three other people, said Rice.

Officers were hot on the robbers' tail after being given a description of the vehicle by an alert witness.

Chicago police officers chased the vehicle to the 7100 block of West Grand Avenue where the arrests were made.

The two men who allegedly robbed the bank are also suspected of robbing another Chase Bank branch, at 1230 N. Milwaukee Ave., on two previous occasions. The photo of one of the robbery suspects is posted to the Bandit Tracker Chicago website.

No charges had been filed as of 8:30 Friday night.
