It was a mulching tool.

A 3 1/2 pound piece of metal that crashed through a Carpentersville home did not come from an airplane, authorities say.

Instead it came from an industrial mulching machine whose drill bit splintered.

No one was hurt when the object fell into the home Friday. The owner, who was not at home at the time, later found it in a bathroom.

"I walked in the bathroom and there was insulation all over the place and a piece of metal layinng on the floor," said homeowner Dame Willman.

Carpentersville Police Cmdr. Tim Bosshart said a man familiar with the equipment alerted him after seeing the piece of metal on a newscast.
