The fictional novel about serial killer Hannibal Lecter and copies of Maxim magazine were recently confiscated from the segregated cell of murderer Brian Dugan, authorities said.

DuPage County Jail personnel shook down the cell over the weekend after Dugan reportedly placed a call to one of his five attorneys. That call was patched through to an ABC television producer who apparently wanted to conduct an interview.

The call came on the heels of Dugan's recent letter to the media explaining why he admitted to the 1983 killing of 10-year-old Jeanine Nicarico.

Judge Geoge Bakalis said he believes Dugan is trying to taint his potential jury pool.
