Blackhawks Remain One of NHL's Most Valuable Franchises

The Chicago Blackhawks were eliminated from the playoffs in the first round last season, but that did nothing to hurt the team’s financial situation as they remain one of the most valuable franchises in the entire NHL.

According to a new valuation released by Forbes Magazine, the Blackhawks are currently the fourth-most valuable team in the league, with the franchise’s worth holding steady at $925 million, the same as a season ago.

The Blackhawks led the NHL in regular season attendance for the eighth consecutive season, drawing nearly 900,000 fans to their games. The magazine says that the team’s high average ticket price ($80) and high television ratings contributed to their profits last season.

Unfortunately for the Blackhawks, they aren’t the most-valuable team in the city of Chicago. That distinction still goes to the Chicago Bears, who are worth $2.7 billion according to Forbes. The Cubs are also high on the list, checking in at $2.2 billion.

As for the NHL, the rest of the top five remained the same, with the New York Rangers maintaining their spot atop the rankings ahead of the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs. Those three teams are the only three worth at least $1 billion in the NHL, according to Forbes’ calculations.

The Boston Bruins round out the top five, checking in at $800 million, after increasing their value by seven percent from a season ago.
