Illinois Student Earns Perfect ACT Score

A.J. DiGiovanni said practice tests were more challenging

One Belleville high school student has earned a perfect score of 36 on the college preparatory ACT test.

Seventeen-year-old A.J. DiGiovanni of Althoff Catholic High School got the perfect score, the Belleville News-Democrat reported.

DiGiovanni said it "was definitely a surprise."

The test measures English, math, reading, science and other skills. DiGiovanni said he took practice tests online and said they were "much more difficult" than the real ACT test.

DiGiovanni will be a senior this coming school year. He's on the math team, in the science club and is a National Honor Society member. He also is varsity captain of the school's scholar bowl team. DiGiovanni says he wants to pursue a career in science, technology or math.
