Chicago Police Issue Alert After Girl, 11, Escapes Attempted Kidnapping

Girl told authorities she saw another girl tied up in the man's van

An 11-year-old girl who escaped an attempted kidnapping Monday afternoon in Chicago's south side Woodlawn neighborhood told authorities she saw another girl tied up in the man’s van, police said.

The girl said she was walking home from school about 3:50 p.m. in the 1000 block of East 63rd Street when a man approached her from behind and grabbed her, according to a community alert.

The man then tried to force the girl into the back of a white, full-sized van with painted windows, police said.

The girl was able to break free from the man and run away, but reported to authorities she saw a black girl, approximately 12 years old, inside the van with her hands and legs duct taped, screaming for help, police said.

The suspect was described as an older, black man who stood about 5 feet, 11 inches tall. He had  graying hair on his wrist and was wearing a black ski mask, a long black-sleeved shirt and black pants, police said.

Anyone with information should contact the Chicago Police Department 312-747-8380.
