The body of a fallen soldier from Indiana made the final trip home Wednesday.

Spc. Sergio E. Perez Jr., 21, of Crown Point was killed in Afghanistan last week, along with Spc. Nicholas A. Taylor, Jr., 20, of Berene. They were killed in an attack that included rocket-propelled grenade and small arms fire in Kandahar.

Perez’s body arrived at the Gary Airport where police and the patriot guard were on hand to salute him and provide escort to the funeral home.

His funeral mass is scheduled for 8 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Consolation, at 8303 Taft St., in Merrillville.

Perez is survived by both parents.
