Surveillance Video Records Gift Thief

Home security system sends photo of thief to Andersonville couple's phone.

Surveillance video from a home in Chicago's Andersonville neighborhood shows a thief stealing hundreds of dollars worth of Christmas present from the front porch.

Ben Davis and his wife were in New York City over the weekend when a picture message from their surveillance system came into their cellphone at about 1 a.m.

The photo showed someone on their porch making off with packages that had been left.

"It's always upsetting to have your things stolen and your space violated and, you know, you live in a good neighborhood and you hope these types of things don't happen," said Davis.

The packages were Christmas gifts that Davis' wife had ordered.  He said he doesn't anticipate getting the items back but does hope the Grinch is caught.

"The most important thing is remember the season and keep and even keel on the whole matter and just remember that the items are replaceable and that nobody was hurt," he said.

No one is in custody.

The incident comes two days after the arrest of a 26-year-old man in the North Side neighborhood of Sauganash.  Police said Felix Jusino was found with nearly a dozen UPS packages that didn't belong to him.
