Stolen Ambulance Recovered, Minnesota Woman Charged

Samantha Sligar, 27, of Minneapolis, was taken into custody at about 6:15 a.m. along Interstate 57 near mile marker 304

A Minnesota woman was charged Friday morning with possession of a stolen vehicle after she allegedly swiped an ambulance from a hospital, used the sirens and ran vehicles off the road.

Samantha Sligar, 27, of Minneapolis, was taken into custody at about 6:15 a.m. along Interstate 57 near mile marker 304, Sgt. Sean Arie with the Village of Rantoul Police Department said.

The vehicle was taken from Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, northwest of Chicago, at about 4:40 a.m., an Illinois State Police official and a hospital spokeswoman said.

Officials from Rantoul were notified at about 5:30 a.m. that the stolen Arlington Heights Fire Department ambulance was in the area, reportedly using the siren and causing traffic problems, Arie said.

Illinois State Police ended their pursuit of the vehicle at the Ford and Champaign county line and officers deployed stop sticks onto the roadway when the ambulance approached.

Sligar was arrested "without incident," Arie said, and taken to the Champaign County Correctional Center.
