Lincoln Park Fire Spreads to Three Buildings

Windy conditions hampered firefighting efforts in battling an extra-alarm North Side fire that ultimately destroyed one building and damaged two others Wednesday afternoon.

The fire was reported in the 1700 block of West Altgelt Street at about 2:30 p.m. but was quickly elevated to a two-alarm fire and later a third alarm, Fire Media Affairs spokesman Quention Curtis said.

Heavy winds hampered firefighting efforts and caused the fire to spread to two nearby buildings.

The main fire building was vacant, but for sale, and was destroyed in the fire.  The building to the south sustained moderate damage that could be repaired, while the third building sustained less damage.

One firefighter suffered a minor injury after twisting his ankle at the scene, Langford said. The firefighter was not hospitalized.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
