Car Crashes Into Alsip Home After Police Chase

Charges were pending against two teens as of 11 a.m.

Two people were taken into custody Wednesday morning following a brief police chase that ended shortly after a car crashed into a home in Alsip, southwest of Chicago.

Illinois State Police Lt. Scott Zablotny said the red Ford SUV was stolen in Chicago in the area of West 63rd Street and South Ashland Avenue before being used in a robbery at a BP Earth Market gas station on the 12200 block of South Cicero Avenue.

About an hour after that robbery, Zablotny said an Alsip police officer spotted the vehicle going  westbound on West 122nd Street without headlights. The driver crashed the vehicle into a home near West 121st Place and South Lockwood Avenue.

The driver, who Zablotny said is 17 years old, and a passenger, who he said is 18 years old, then got out and ran off. Both were later found.

No one inside the home was injured. One Alsip police officer was treated at Metro South Hospital for a minor knee injury and released, Zablotny said.

"I'm just relieved we're OK. It could've been much worse in many ways," said homeowner Sheila McDermott.

Charges were pending against the teens as of 11 a.m.
