Judge Delays Sentencing for Orland Park Man Convicted in Wife's Murder

Allan Kustok faces 45 years to life in the death of his wife, Anita "Jeanie" Kustok

A Cook County judge on Friday will hear a motion for a new trial for an Orland Park man convicted four months ago in the 2010 shooting death of his wife.

Allan Kustok faces 45 years to life in the death of his wife, Anita "Jeanie" Kustok. A jury of six men and six women convicted the 63-year-old in March of shooting his wife in the face with a .357-caliber revolver while she slept in their bed.

Defense attorney Rich Beuke challenged the physical evidence presented by Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Jim Papa and called the prosecution's case a "crazed conspiracy." He said investigators mishandled evidence, allowing blood to be transferred onto Kustok's glasses and shirt.

Prosecutors maintained that Kustok wanted out of his marriage and had a series of extramarital affairs in the days and weeks before his wife's death.
