“Nanny Cam” Recorded Child Abuse, Police Say

Alice Vesely, 65, of the 2700 block of West Lunt Avenue, is in the Cook County Jail after a judge set her bail at $300,000

A woman from Chicago's north side was recorded by a "nanny cam" beating two twin boys under her care, police said this week.

Alice Vesely, 65, of the 2700 block of West Lunt Avenue, is in the Cook County Jail after a judge set her bail at $300,000.

Authorities said the parents of the 8-month-old twin boys showed them a video earlier this week that allegedly showed Veseley slapping, punching and smothering the boys while she cared for them in their Lincoln Park home.

The video doesn't show any clear injuries, authorities said, but the boys were taken to Children’s Memorial Hospital for examination.

The parents installed the surveillance camera at the suggestion of a doctor who found a small bruise on one of the boys.

"I personally don't believe it," said one of Veseley's neighbors. "She's a good person and a good neighbor."

Another neighbor declined to comment on the allegations, but described Vesely as "pretty reclusive."

Nearly a year ago, another woman was charged with aggravated battery to a child after a "nanny cam" allegedly recorded her choking and shaking a 15-month-old girl.
