Priest Pleads Not Guilty to Abusing Another Boy

Rev. Alejandro Flores jumped from church balcony in January

A Chicago-area Roman Catholic priest accused of sexually assaulting a young boy has pleaded not guilty to charges he also tried to abuse the child's older brother.

The Rev. Alejandro Flores of Shorewood pleaded not guilty Friday in Kane County Circuit Court to a 16-count indictment.

Flores was arrested in January and charged with sexually abusing a suburban Chicago boy beginning in 2005, when the boy was 8 years old. Prosecutors allege the abuse continued for about five years.

Knowing that charges were coming in the January case, Flores jumped from a church balcony in an attempt to end his own life.

The latest indictment alleges Flores attempted to sexually abuse the boy's older brother during the same period he was attacking the younger boy.

Defense attorney Glenn Sowa says the new charges weren't a surprise and he'd warned Flores to expect them.

The 37-year-old Flores is jailed on $1 million bail.
