Zagat Survey Ranks Katsu, Alinea Among Top Chicago Restaurants

Katsu beat out Alinea and Next in this year's survey

Looking for the best meals in Chicago?

Zagat released its 2014 survey and ranked Katsu in Rogers Park the best in the city for "Top Food," followed by suburban offering Vie and Grant Achatz's high-end Chicago spots Alinea and Next.

"In one of the year’s biggest surprises, Katsu, the Rogers Park hole-in-the-wall sushi spot, takes the win in this category with Grant Achatz’s culinary empire of Next and Alinea trailing closely behind," the publication notes.

The survey reflected the opinions of 7,634 surveyors who eat, on average, 4.7 meals per week at 1,147 different eateries, according to Zagat.

In other categories, Lincoln Park's Riccardo Trattoria ranked best Italian, Smoque BBQ has the best barbecue and Kuma's Corner maintained its title for best burger.

Top pizza? Nothing deep-dish. Spacca Napoli's "thin, bubbly crust covered in a tangy tomato sauce and gooey cheese" takes the prize.

Other spots for overall top food include Ruxbin, Schwa, EL Ideas, and Topolobampo.
