Local Chef Bakes Cookies with Berkus

He's only 7 and his original recipe earned him a trip to New York City

Zane Leininger is a young chef taking a bite out of the Big Apple.

The 7-year-old Huntley native is a guest on the new daytime talk show, "The Nate Berkus Show," hosted by the designer and Oprah Winfrey friend in New York City, the Sun-Times reports.  Leininger, a second grader at Mackeben Elementary School in Algonquin, will be baking his original recipe for chocolate-chunk peanut butter cookies to the show.

Leininger created the recipe for a Kiwi magazine contest looking for kids who enjoyed cooking.  The recipe made it to the finals where it drew the attention of the show.

For more information about Leininger and his family, see the complete story at the Sun-Times.

The oven will be set and ready to go this afternoon, at 2 p.m. when the shows airs on your very own WMAQ-Channel 5.
