How You Can Take a Piece of Wrigley Field Home for Free This Week

The Chicago Cubs fell just short of making it to the World Series this year, but true fans know the 2015 season should not be one to forget.

To make the memory of the season last a little longer, the Cubs are allowing fans to take home squares of sod from Wrigley Field for free. Every year, the Cubs replace much of the grass in the field during the offseason. This year, they plan to cut the sod into 18"x18" sections and place them outside the field for fans to take home free of charge.

The sod will be available through Nov. 3 on a first-come, first-served basis. Fans can find the pieces of Wrigley Field sod along Sheffield Avenue just north of Addison Street near the "knothole gate."

Officials encourage everyone to check with a lawncare professional before taking home the sod to be sure the sand-based sod is a good fit for your backyard or parkway.
