A Yorkville man was arrested Monday for breaking into a home last month and stealing jewelry, the Kendall County Sheriff's Office announced.

On March 30, Jason E. Gilich, 19, forced his way into the basement window  of a residence on Winding Creek Road. Gilich set off the home's alarm system, alerting Kendall County Sheriff's deputies who responded at 11:30 p.m.

After checking the home, police found Gilich fled the scene. Homeowners let police know jewelry had been stolen from the home.

During their invstigation, detectives were given tips from a friend of the family that led them to Gilich.

Detectives obtained search warrants for Gilich's residence on Monday at the 400 block of McHugh Road. According to detectives, Gilich confessed to the burglary.

Authorities located some of the stolen jewelry in Gilich's possession, but Gilich told detectives he had taken some of the jewelry to a store that pays cash for gold.
