Wrigley Field Bleachers Removed as Renovations Continue

Construction in the nearly $600 million renovation is only in its first stage

Wrigley Field is missing a crucial piece of its stadium—the bleachers.

The Cubs say workers started to take the bleachers down about a month ago, leaving that part of the stadium bare for the last two weeks.

As renovations continue at the historic, 100-year-old stadium, many fans say the changes have them longing with nostalgia, but some are encouraged by what they hope it can become.

“I really do think change was needed, but also the nostalgic part of the park I hope will maintain its integrity,” said fan Stef Lanzi.

Construction in the nearly $600 million renovation is only in its first stage, and it has shut down at least two streets around the stadium, making for a parking nightmare.

“Stay away from the Waveland and Sheffield side of Wrigley Field,” said Ald. Tom Tunney. “If you want to see Wrigley Field go to Clark and Addison because there is lots of construction.”

Waveland and Sheffield could be shut down until the Cubs' opening day in April. When they reopen, some parking spaces will be gone.

“People are going to have to get used to a new environment,” Tunney said. “They’re bringing the best of technology with the historic nature of the park.”
