A worker dismantling a water tank in the West Side Humboldt Park neighborhood suffered serious injuries when he fell Monday afternoon.
The worker, believed to be about 20, and another man were taking apart an old rooftop water tank about 4 p.m. on a building near Grand and Sacramento, Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford said.
When the man climbed the tank’s original ladder, which was attached to a rotted section, the ladder broke off, Langford said. The man fell to the roof’s surface.
Paramedics had to climb to the roof with medical equipment to treat the man, whose condition was stabilized there before he was brought down and taken to Stroger Hospital, Langford said. He was listed in serious-to-critical condition Monday afternoon.
The other man was not injured.
