Woodstock Man Convicted of Craiglist Attack Gets 36 Years

Oliver met each of the victims on Craigslist, police said

A northwest suburban man accused of sex-related crimes against several women he met on Craigslist was sentenced Thursday to 36 years in prison.

Charles R. Oliver of Woodstock was arrested on Jan. 28, 2013, and ultimately accused of attacking several women he met on the website, authorities said previously.

Oliver met each of the victims on Craigslist, and assaulted them after they met at prearranged locations, police said at the time.

A jury found Oliver guilty on Feb. 28 of two counts of criminal sexual assault and one count of unlawful restraint, McHenry County Assistant State’s Attorney Sharyl Eisenstein said.

He pleaded guilty on March 17 to aggravated criminal sexual assault in a separate case in exchange for the remaining cases to be dismissed, Eisenstein said.

Judge Sharon Prather handed down the 36-year sentence Thursday.

By law, Oliver must serve at least 85 percent of the sentence, and will receive credit for more than a year spent in jail since his arrest, Eisenstein said.
