Police are warning Chicago residents about a new string of robberies after two women sprayed victims with pepper spray then stole their belongings.
The robberies, which were all reported in June, took place on Chicago’s Northwest Side, police said.
The women ask their female victims for directions then spray them with Mace or pepper spray before stealing their purses and phones, according to a community alert. The women have been seen fleeing the scene in a cream-colored, late-model sedan.
At least three incidents were reported in one day.
The first incident happened around 5:30 p.m. Friday in the 2200 block of West Cortez Street. A second incident happened just after 8 p.m. in the 1700 block of West Haddon Avenue. A third incident took place just before 11 p.m. in the 2200 block of West Hirsch Street.
One woman was described as being between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing 155-190 pounds with brown eyes and black hair worn in a ponytail. The second woman was between 5 feet 3 inches and 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighed between 120 and 130 pounds. She had blonde hair that was also worn in a ponytail.
