An 18-year-old woman was shot early Thursday morning on the Dan Ryan Expressway while riding in a car in the South Side Chatham neighborhood.
The woman was a passenger in a vehicle heading southbound around 2:20 a.m. in the 7900 block of South Lafayette Avenue when she was shot in the torso, Illinois State Police said.
She was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital before being transferred to Advocate Christ Medical Center, police said.
Lanes were shut down as the shooting was investigated, but had been reopened shortly before 5 a.m., officials said.
No other passengers in the car were injured in the shooting.
