Women Sexually Assaulted in Two Chicago Neighborhoods: Police

The attack took place just before 2:30 a.m. Sept. 14 in the 1600 block of West Fletcher Street

Two women were sexually assaulted on the same day in separate incidents on Chicago's North and West sides.

A 27-year-old woman was sexually assaulted in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood last Sunday, police said.

The attack took place just before 2:30 a.m. Sept. 14 in the 1600 block of West Fletcher Street.

Police said a woman was walking in the common area of an apartment when a man tackled her from behind. The man took the woman into her hallway where he lifted her dress and assaulted her, according to a community alert issued Sunday by police.

A friend of the victim came out onto a porch landing and yelled and the offender fled the scene.

The suspect was described as a man between the ages of 30 and 35 and standing between 5-foot-5 and 5-foot-9. He had a thin build, a pony tail and was wearing a white T-shirt and jeans, police said.

A second incident was reported around 9:30 p.m. that day in the 2300 block of North Nordica. The woman was walking southbound on the street when a man ran up behind her and punched her in the face, according to a community alert.

The woman began struggling and the man sexually assaulted her, police said. The offender fled the scene after cars began driving down the street.

The suspect was described as a man between 30 and 40 years of age, with light complexion, about 6 feet tall and between 150 and 160 pounds. The man had short red hair, a red mustache and a goatee. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt with a Bulls championship logo, ripped blue jeans. The victim told police he smelled of alcohol and cigarettes.

Police do not believe the incidents were related.
