Woman Sexually Assaulted in Arlington Heights Home

The man entered through an unsecured window, police said

An Arlington Heights woman was sexually assaulted early Thursday in her northwest suburban home by a man who entered through an unsecured window, police said.

The man entered the home in the 2400 block of south Embers Lane around 2 a.m. and assaulted her, police said. He took an unknown amount of jewelry from the residence before leaving.

The victim was transported to a local hospital where she was treated and released, police said.

The man is described as a 5-foot-6 male with average build, short dark curly hair and olive skin. He was unshaven, spoke with an unknown accent and wore dark, khaki-style pants and a dark polo shirt.

K9 teams swept the area around the home Thursday looking for any trace of the offender.

"I know her from saying hello and goodbye," neighbor Rocky Gray said. "She's very nice, really nice woman. It's horrible. It's terrible. I am scared not for myself, but there are a lot of women and children like that. It's the first time I've ever heard of a sexual assault."

Arlington Heights Police said they are actively investigating the incident and looking for witnesses who can help identify the man. Anyone with information about the assault is asked to call police at 847-368-5343.

Police also are asking residents to make sure their homes and windows are locked and secured.

"Accessible windows should be locked or have stops in place to limit how far the window can be opened to prevent unauthorized entry," police said.
