Too frequent are news stories of animal abuse, most often of dogs, cats and horses.

But a Chicago woman was charged with animal cruelty after she allegedly ripped off the tail of an iguana during an argument at her West Side home Saturday afternoon.

Delia Jimenez, 46, was arrested at her Humboldt Park home at 3:50 p.m. Saturday, according to a police report.

Jimenez was involved in an argument with a man who lives with her and while he was holding an iguana, Jimenez allegedly ripped off approximately five inches of the tail, exposing the iguana's tailbone and causing extensive bleeding.

Jimenez was charged with a misdemeanor of cruelty to animals. Court information was not immediately available.
