Woman Pleads Guilty to Stealing Therapy Dog

Judge ordered 100 hours of public service for stealing the dog used to help an autistic child

A northern Illinois woman has admitted stealing a therapy dog used to help an autistic child.

Betty Peltier of Antioch pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor theft charge as part of the plea agreement.

A Lake County judge on Wednesday ordered her to perform 100 hours of public service and serve one year of court supervision.

Authorities say the 58-year-old woman took a Chihuahua named "Peanut" when it wandered away from a family's home and didn't return it to the autistic boy until the child's mother offered a reward.
