Woman Killed After Car Plunges into Retention Pond

A woman died Saturday morning after her car plunged into a pond in Grundy County, police said.

Police said the car, driven by a 53-year-old woman, went down and embankment before smashing into the pond.

A passerby saw the car’s taillights and called for help.

“I came around the corner, I live right up on the hill, and I saw a glow on the weeds and I actually thought some kids spray painted it,” said witness Pat McCabe. “When I got past it I took another look and I could see the headlights glowing out on the water and then I realized there were brake lights reflecting.”

McCabe and two Morris police officers jumped into the water and pulled the woman out of the car before performing CPR, according to Deputy Chief Robert Wills.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities.

The woman was later identified as Constance Stacey, of Morris, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
