Woman Drives Pipe Bombs to Police Station

Downers Grove police called in bomb squad

This could have been one explosive estate sale.

A Downers Grove woman discovered several pipe bombs while clearing out an Aurora house in preparation for an estate sale Wednesday afternoon, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Rather than call 911she packed up the bombs in her car and drove to Downers Grove.

She didn't know the location of the police station in Aurora, said Downers Grove Sgt. Dave Bormann, so she drove the explosives all nearly 30 minutes East.

The woman parked and left the explosives inside her car while she went inside her local police station. She asked the officers how to dispose of the bombs, said Bormann.

That question put them on high alert.

Officers called in the DuPage County bomb squad, which took the pipe bombs.

Police said they weren't sure if the bombs were active. But they took precautions.
