One woman is dead and another severely injured after an out-of-control horse trampled them.

Margareta Goldenstein, 66, of Germany, was pronounced dead at St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin. Renate Rexroth-Saeger, 76, of St. Charles, was listed in critical condition.

The unfortunate accident occured during a family reunion in Kane county at 9N467 Kendall Road in Plato Township. Nineteen-year-old Charlotte Anna Von Harling, an experienced rider from Hamburg, Germany, was completing a circuit of the field when she lost control of the horse she was riding.

The horse struck Goldenstein and Margarete in an open field.  VonHarling was dragged nearly 20 feet after being thrown off the horse, but did not suffer life-threatening injuries, according to the Tribune.
