An Elgin woman is accused of hitting her live-in boyfriend in the head with several items, including pan

An Elgin woman is accused of killing her boyfriend after striking him with a frying pan during a fight, police said.

Nora P. Peterson, 34, of the 130 block of South State Street, was charged with first-degree murder in the death of 55-year-old Michael N. Mielczarek, who lived at the same address.

Elgin Police said officers responded to a call from Peterson at about 3:47 p.m. Saturday and found Mielczarek not breathing. The man was transported to Provena St. Joseph Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Kane County Coroner’s Office determined from his autopsy the cause of death to be blunt force trauma to the head.

Peterson is accused of hitting Mielczarek in the head with several items, including a frying pan. The blows allegedly caused Mielczarek to fall and strike his head on the floor.

Peterson called 911 for an ambulance after Mielczarek stopped breathing, police said.
