Police were called to a home on the 4800 block of South Karlov on Wednesday evening

A 54-year-old woman was found dead on Chicago's Southwest Side Wednesday and police are investigating her death as a homicide.

Police were called to the scene shortly after 8 p.m. Wednesday in the 4800 block of South Karlov. When officers arrived they said they found a woman's body in the basement of a home.

The woman had suffered blunt force injuries to the head, police said. She was later identified as Maria Sadelski, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Authorities said the death is believed to be domestic-related, and police sources say they are questioning two family members in the investigation.

A vehicle also crashed into a nearby garage and authorities said the crash is part of the investigation.

No charges had been filed as of early Thursday morning, but police say they are questioning two people.
