Woman Attacked, Bound at Gunpoint During Suburban Home Invasion

A woman was attacked and bound at gunpoint during a home invasion while she was house sitting for a coworker in a Chicago suburb, according to authorities.

The 27-year-old woman told Oak Park police a man forced his way into a home in the 1000 block of South Oak Park Avenue and assaulted and bound her before fleeing with $25 in cash.

The woman said the man knocked on the door, asked for a name she didn’t recognize and left. He then returned a few minutes later and when she attempted to close the door, the man forced his way inside and displayed a handgun, police said.

The woman, a Chicago resident who was housesitting at the time of the attack, was taken to Rush Oak Park Hospital where she was treated and released.

“Crimes of this nature are unusual,” Police Chief Rick C. Tanksley said in a statement.

Police have asked for the public’s help in identifying the attacker.

“Given the time of day and location, someone may have seen the assailant whether they know it or not,” Tanksley said. “That’s why we are urging everyone to think back to yesterday and try and recall anything or anyone that didn’t quite fit in with the rhythm of the neighborhood. Small details could be the key.”

Anyone with information is asked to call (708) 383-3800.
