Winter weather canceled hundreds of flights in the Chicago area Tuesday as freezing rain, snow and ice blanketed the ground.
More than 340 flights were canceled at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport and more than 60 flights were canceled at Midway Airport, officials said.
A Winter Weather Advisory kicked in at 3 a.m. across the area and lasts until midday.
Slightly warmer temperatures will likely turn the morning snow, freezing rain and sleet to all rain by the afternoon hours. Tuesday temperatures should max out in the upper 30s before dropping off to below freezing.

The wintry mix also made travel difficult for some Chicago Transit Authority riders with major delays and a service suspension reported on the Green, Purple, Pink and Yellow Lines during the Tuesday morning commute.
Chicago Transit Authority officials planned for normal weekday service for Tuesday morning, promising to dispatch operations and maintenance workers during the night and into the morning to make sure buses and trains run on schedule.
Travelers looking to fly in or out of the Chicago area are advised to check airlines for their flight status.
