Dangerous Winds Shut Down Willis Tower Skydeck

The National Weather Service warned winds could reach upwards of 50 to 60 mph

Willis Tower's Skydeck is open 365 days a year, but it was shut down Friday as powerful winds whipped through the Chicago area.

"The Skydeck is currently closed due to inclement weather. We apologize for any inconvenience," the venue announced.

The popular attraction was scheduled to be open until 8 p.m., but closed for the day just after 9 a.m.

Earlier in the day, the National Weather Service upgraded the Chicago area from an issued Wind Advisory to a High Wind Warning that will remain in effect until 6 p.m.

Gusts could be strong and potentially damaging, NWS warned, traveling upwards of 50 to 60 mph. Some minor property damage is possible and driving will be more difficult, especially for larger high profile vehicles.
