White Sox Designate Mat Latos for Assignment

After a torrid start to the season, pitcher Mat Latos has plummeted back to Earth, and the Chicago White Sox have opted to cut ties with the hurler on Thursday.

The team announced their decision to designate Latos for assignment on Thursday afternoon, after he had struggled through his last seven starts with the club. Although he still holds a 6-2 record, his ERA has been steadily on the rise, now sitting at 4.62 on the season. In his last seven starts, his ERA was 7.25, giving the White Sox all the incentive they needed to move on from the veteran pitcher.

In a corresponding move, the White Sox have purchased the contract of Tyler Danish from Double-A Birmingham. Danish, a second-round pick of the White Sox in the 2013 MLB Draft, has a 3-7 record with a 4.42 ERA in 12 starts with the Barons this season.

The White Sox rotation has undergone some serious overhauls on the backend already this season. John Danks was designated for assignment earlier this spring after a rough start to the year, and pitcher Erik Johnson was shipped out in a trade with the San Diego Padres that brought James Shields to the South Side.
