The Chicago White Sox have had a quiet offseason so far, but things picked up on Wednesday night as the team acquired third baseman Brett Lawrie in a trade with the Oakland A’s.

Lawrie, who hit 16 home runs and drove in 60 RBI during the 2015 season in Oakland, is under contract for two more seasons before hitting free agency.

In exchange for Lawrie, the White Sox sent left-handed pitcher Zachary Erwin and right-handed pitcher J.B. Wendelken.

The White Sox have been looking for an upgrade at the hot corner, and it appears they have found one with Lawrie. Lawrie posted his highest batting average since 2012 when he hit .260 this season, and he also picked up career highs in home runs, doubles, and base-hits.

The one knock on Lawrie is a lack of plate discipline, as he struck out 144 times in 602 plate appearances in the 2015 campaign.
