Warrant Issued for Second Suspect in Tyshawn Lee Murder

Investigators said at least three people were involved in the killing, but it's not clear yet who did what

Chicago Police issued a warrant Friday for a second man believed to be involved with the murder of 9-year-old Tyshawn Lee.

Kevin Edwards, of Chicago, is wanted for first-degree murder, police said. Investigators said Edwards is one of three men who lured Tyshawn from a Chicago park to a nearby alley in November and shot him multiple times.

“We’re going to catch him,” said Chicago Police Supt. Garry McCarthy during a news conference Friday morning. “We’re definitely going to catch him. It’s just a matter of when and quite frankly in a heinous crime like this he’s probably better off if we catch him than somebody else,” said McCarthy.

Edwards is on the run, according to investigators, who said he is somewhere in the Chicago area.

Police said Edwards belongs to the same gang as Corey Morgan, who was charged Friday with the murder of Tyshawn.

Morgan, 27, was arrested last week on an unrelated weapons charge, but had been free on bail after meeting the $1 million bond requirement with the help of his girlfriend. Police say he was in violation of his bond when he was taken into custody earlier this week.

Investigators said at least three people were involved in the killing, but it's not clear yet who did what.

A third suspect, who is believed to also be involved with the same gang, is already in custody on an unrelated charge, and McCarthy said he is "not getting out anytime soon."

McCarthy said the "targeted and calculated" killing was gang retaliation to get back at Tyshawn's father.
