Vienna Beef Returns as Wrigley's Top Dog

Cubs focusing on local eats this season

Wrigley Field's upping its Chicago-style cred.

The North Side team chose locally based Vienna Beef as its "official hot dog," the Cubs announced Monday morning, marking the end of its partnership with Sara Lee franks.

The last time a Vienna dog was served at Wrigley was in 1982.

This season, fans can buy 'em on plain or poppy seed-clad buns from Gonnella Baking Co. and with a variety of toppings, including more unique options: the Taco Dog, Frito Dog, Deli Dog, Nacho Dog and the Heater. Every year, the park sells more than 1 million dogs.

The hot dog isn't the only change to the localized overhaul on Wrigley's menu.

D'Agostino's Pizza replaces Connie's Pizza and joins burgers from Stanley's Kitchen & Tap, chicken wings from The Fifty/50 and several gluten-free and allergy-friendly food options from Enjoy Life Foods and Starfruit Frozen Kefir.

"We are proud to be partnering with iconic Chicago companies to enhance our overall food experience," Cubs Executive Vice President Wally Hayward said in a statement.
