Veteran Job Fair Comes to Union Station

The fair also offers free professional headshots, complimentary financial consultations, and free workshops

A hiring fair for veterans, active duty and their family members will be held in Chicago Tuesday.

The annual hiring fair will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Great Hall of Union Station, 500 W. Jackson Blvd, featuring 30 local companies seeking to connect with and hire the heroes.

Opportunities include employment at Blue Cross Blue Shield, Chicago Transit Authority, Fifth Third Bank, Loretto Hospital, Metra, Orion Energy Systems, University of Chicago Medicine, Walsh Construction, Willis Insurance and more.

The fair also offers free professional headshots, complimentary financial consultations, and free workshops featuring international speaker and trainer Sima Dahl on how to leverage LinkedIn for your job search.

Last year there were 11 on-the-spot job offers and many of the 300 participants received employment offers from connections they made at the event within six weeks.

Immediately following the hiring fair, a veterans appreciation rally and news conference will be held at Union Station from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Chicago area veteran leaders will join city and state officials to discuss veteran hiring, VA challenges, expansion of the GI Bill, and to present three awards to three local veteran organizations and leaders.

For veterans seeking to transition into a civilian career, Fifth Third Bank is giving away scholarships through the month of November.

Successful veterans will receive eight weeks of job coaching with a military job specialist at NextJob, a national reemployment solutions company. The $1,000 scholarships are available on a first-come, first-serve basis to the first 100 U.S. military members, veterans, and their spouses who visit and complete enrollment on the company's website.
