Vernon Hills Home Depot on Lockdown

Police surrounded the store after reports two masked men robbed it early Tuesday


    Police surround a Home Depot in Vernon Hills early Tuesday morning.

    A suburban Home Depot remains closed as Vernon Hills police search for two masked men who tried robbing the store early Tuesday.

    The men entered the store around 1:40 a.m. to commit an armed robbery, police said. Employees called 911 and were able to safely escape.

    Squad cars surrounded the building and neighboring strip mall stores in the Vernon Hills Marketplace Shopping Center, at 493 Milwaukee Ave.

    Surrounding stores in the strip mall have since been allowed to reopen.

    No one was injured, and it is unknown if anything was taken from the store.
